Brethren Academy

Summer 2018

What |  Brethren Academy was founded with the support of Lilly Endowment Inc. to help young students better understand how faith and theology shape their everyday lives. They’ll get a chance to explore their life calling, grow deeper in faith, form lasting friendships, and get a taste of the college experience that may inspire them for something more. Students will hear from university and seminary faculty as well as successful ministry leaders serving in various fields (church, business, missions, etc.). While here, students will also get the opportunity to learn from financial counselors and career specialists to gain useful resources for their next steps in life.

Where |  Brethren Academy takes place at Ashland University in Ashland, OH. Students live in the dorms, eat in our award winning dining hall, learn and play in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel, and have fun with one another around campus.

When | Brethren Academy 2018 will take place in July at Ashland University. More detailed information will be provided soon.

How |  Students will spend significant portions of morning and evening activities in their small groups of 10 or so, each led by college students and volunteer ministry leaders. Though students learn from experts, they also learn from and support one another in small group discussions and activities.

Who Should Apply | Brethren Academy hosts up 100 high school students who are rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, or recent graduates. We are looking for students of faith who lead with a heart of service and humility. Brethren Academy is housed within the Office of Christian Ministry which is affiliated with the Brethren Church tradition but is open to people of all faiths. Students who are seeking a college experience where they will be challenged intellectually and spiritually will fit in well!

How to Apply | While groups from the same church are encouraged to travel together, each student must fill out individual applications with essay questions. It may be helpful to download the PDF or Microsoft Word application file first and type answers to essay questions in a word processing document that can then be copied and pasted into the appropriate fields on the online form. The application fee is $50 which can be paid by credit or debit card via the online application. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation of registration and acceptance within two weeks.
